JBL's wireless On Air Control 2.4G

The latest major manufacturer to attempt wireless speakers is JBL, who have announced the On Air Control 2.4G, Electronista reports. The units have 30W of power each, and connect to their primary source through a 2.4GHz receiver module up to 70 feet away. Crtically, a mini-jack port allows secondary sources such as iPods, while another input allows the addition of a dedicated subwoofer. It's suggested that the wireless aspect makes the speakers ideal as a replacement for a second audio system -- alternately, the speakers could be integrated into an existing setup as surround channels, or dedicated to a media player. JBL plans to debut the 2.4Gs in February for $350. ....

EAST LANSING - Verizon Wireless has opened a new store at 209 Grand River Ave. It is the company's first retail location in East Lansing, its sixth in the greater Lansing area and its 74th in Michigan, the company said. The new 1,600-square-foot Verizon Wireless Communications Store offers wireless products and services. ....

Finnish mobile communications company, Iqua, has chosen Data Select to distribute its range of innovative wireless accessories within the UK - with Carphone Warehouse already secured as the first major outlet of Iqua's wireless headset, CPW-603, designed by award-winning design studio Salovaara & Salonen. Iqua will be working with Accessories Select, Data Select's dedicated accessories business division, to develop a major presence in mass retail and other channels including independent dealers, network operators and the business-to-business market. Wirefly Survey Finds Most Consumers Use Cell Phone Less Than 30 ...

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Although consumer use of cell phones is at an all-time high, a new Wirefly.com survey indicates that only 13 percent of consumers use their cell phone more than an average of 30 minutes per day. Wirefly surveyed 2,011 U.S.-based cell phone users, age 18 and older, and found: 46 percent use their cell phone 500 minutes a month or less; 32 percent use their cell phone between 500 and 1000 minutes per month; 13 percent said they use their cell phone more than 1000 minutes each month. The same survey revealed that 68 percent of users say the camera is their favorite cell phone feature — beating out built-in MP3 players, GPS systems or TV functionality. In addition, 17 percent of users take more than 15 pictures each month....

DailyTech - "It looks as though Microsoft wants the wireless accessory market all to itself when it comes to Xbox 360. Whereas Sony's PlayStation 3 uses the Bluetooth standard to pair up wireless devices, Microsoft uses a proprietary wireless technology that it has no intention -- at the moment -- to open up to others. The developers for Guitar Hero have already butted heads with Microsoft over the issue and the end result was a guitar controller that is tethered via a USB cable instead of wirelessly. "Well, that's a Microsoft issue. Their wireless technology is proprietary...so they aren't allowing 3rd party manufacturers to make anything at the moment....so until they allow us to do so, we aren't able to," said Red Octane's Bryan Lam." ....
